The Single Parent Outreach Services of America Inc.(SPOSA) was established in 1994. Our organization is dedicated to assisting single parents families with resources, trainings, and classes to help them navigate through difficult situations and circumstances.

Our mission is to reach out to single parents and their families. Our outreach efforts include making provisions for food, clothing, job skills, GED linkage, parenting skills classes, and referrals for utility assistance.

Our goal is to create a safe, non-judgmental, and collaborative experience for our single parent families. This type of relationship will help us to educate, empower, and train single parents with the knowledge and skills to help them excel in their careers and as a parent.

    Victoriyah Smith, LMSW,CMHT, Certified Parent Instructor, Certified Business Consultant


    Victoriyah has received her Master’s Degree in Social Work at the University of Alabama. She also received her Bachelors Degree in Social Work from the University of Southern Mississippi. Victoriyah has an Associates Degree in Business Management from Mississippi Gulfcoast Community College. Victoriyah is licensed social worker in the State of Connecticut. She is a certified parent instructor and a certified business consultant. Presently, she attends Walden University's DSW program to earn her doctorate in Administration, Leadership, and Policy.

Sometimes people fall into situations from which there seems to be no way out. Life problems are overwhelming and stressful. SPOSA provides resources to help in situations that are beyond your control.

Stress management is so important to parenthood. Through our enriched services, parents find their strength to become resilient in providing a stable home for their children.

WHAT WE OFFER

Services and Resources

We offer job skills training to help single parents with their career goals and parent skills classes to teach effective communication with their children. In addition, we link community resources to single-parent homes by bringing stability to these families.

Job Skills Training

Job Skills trainings are offered free to single parents that are in transitional living homes, shelters, and inpatient treatment facilities. SPOSA does fee-for-service agreements for services to non-profit organizations; and governmental and private agencies. Call us to get prices for fee-for- service agreements.

Certified Parenting Classes

Certified Parenting Skills classes are offered to parents for court programs, CPS service agreements, and self-initiated parent autonomy. Parent training is offered for Hancock, Pearl, and Stone counties. Nominal fees are charged to parents. Workbooks included.

SPOSA collaborates with other social service agencies to assist Single-parent families with sustainability. Fee-for-Service agreements are available to non-profit organizations and private organizations.

Does SPOSA assists single parents with finding jobs?

Yes. Parents do receive assistance with finding a job after they complete the required trainings.

Do parents have to pay for the job training?

No. Parents are not required to pay for job skills training; however, they must commit to one week of training. 

Does SPOSA accept court orders and CPS service plans?

Yes. SPOSA does work with parents who have been court-ordered to attend parenting classes. In addition, SPOSA works with parents to complete their CPS service plans regarding employment and parenting. Now serving the Hancock, Pearl, and Stone Counties.

What are the levels of parent trainings?

Progressive Level group - parents need 8-12 hours of documented training.Intermediate Level group - parents need 14-25 hours of documented training.Basic Level group - parents need 26 hours up to 52 hours of documented training.* Nominal charge to parents depending on hours needed.

What resources do SPOSA assist parents with?

Parents are eligible to receive food, clothing, and utility assistance through our referral agencies.

Does SPOSA assist with daycare?

No. SPOSA does not assist with daycare expenses; however, we do make referrals for daycare enrollment.

What type of logistics does SPOSA provide for entities?

SPOSA provides a copy of attendance documentation, sign-in sheets, work excuses, notarized enrollment forms for employers, CPS, court-systems, and other business entities at no charge. 

Do parents receive a certificate for parent classes?

Yes. SPOSA provides certificates of completion for court-ordered and CPS service plans. Parents must complete the required hours or weeks of parenting training to obtain their certificates. In addition, parents must have a workbook to attend parenting classes.
